Clear Skies

He was a cloud,
Thunderous and white,
That had brought rains to places,
Droughts had devastated,
Green sprung up in places,
Deserts and storms,
But fate had other plans,
She wanted clear skies…..

camera doesn’t do much justice….

The picture above is from the terrace of my house. You can see Shivalik Mountains. The camera hasn’t done much justice to the view.

Snow capped mountains..

One Day…

One day it won’t be difficult,
Looking up the stars,
Or through the sea of people,
There will be calm,
Serenity and stability,
Heartache will subside,
The mind will see clearly,
One day you’ll see how beautiful it is,
To love and be loved again,
One day you’ll be healed,
One day…..

The Ocean….

As the ocean covers my face,
The currents carrying me to places,
Deep, cold, strange,
I try to gasp for air,
Its a privilege to breathe,
The air touches my nose,
And runs away like a scared flock of birds,
Apprehensive of what might come,
My legs have already numbed,
The hands struggling for a piece of land,
Oh, that would be the heavens,
My mind plays games with me,
I see the Sun and I see my life,
The old, past, present,
The experienced, the lost and the forgotten,
The salt in the ocean assimilated in my blood,
Makes me sink,
The trenches call my name,
So do the sailors long resting on the sand,
Their ships their holy grail,
Dilapidated, deteriorating, home to fishes,
The bottom of the ocean seems nearer and nearer,
I am flying, sinking, falling,
Senses have decepted me once again,
And as I close my eyes to let the water fill up my lungs,
A distant symphony tickles my ears,
A Siren, a mermaid maybe something magical,
I am lifted up through the blue waters,
Onto something hard,
Something real, phosphorus,
The body tries to eject the water it had taken in,
It coughs hard, belches the salt out from its system,
The brain tries to regain its consciousness,
I look around,
The deserted island doesn’t seem to have any life,
Except me,
The Siren had gone,
Leaving me to myself,
The island and the little shrubs that it could handle,
The Siren had gone,
And I was left to live,
The numbered days I had left,
The Sun maybe an enemy now……..

Can I Wish..?

I wish you could speak some more,
The movement of your lips,
The rotations of the Earth,
The words fall from your lustrous lips,
Onto these ordinary ears,
Drops of water on the leaves,

I wish you could laugh some more,
The play that unravels,
Cosmic and divine,
My heart stops to beat,
The morning Azaan of the distant priest,

I wish you could sing some more,
The rain water gushes through the meadows,
Rumbling the slumbering stones,
Salvation is what fills them,
Takes them to the oceans,

I wish you could kiss some more,
The moist of the morning,
Refreshing and necessary,
The dreams of the night,
The freedom of tomorrow,

I wish I could wish some more,
These words are an insult,
To the picture of you,
This mind has it all captured,
Infinite and in my wrist,

I wish to stop,
This landslide of emotions,
Gravity has helped its flow,
Incompetent I become,
But you already know it all…….

Hopeless Romantics

The night was young,
So were they,
Out of the few mundane, lonely nights,
They decided to venture out,
In the wild,
Where they had heard that,
The predators roam in hides of beauty,
Hush Now, Watch your steps,
They had told themselves,
Every time someone tried to come closer,
What may become of me,
They would say to themselves,
What if a monster lurks in the dark of the night,
They crawled into the blaring lights,
Only to shy away from all the glory,
A quick glance across the gala,
They saw each other,
A coincidence in million years,
Some would say,
A war was waged between the heart and the mind,
Something had changed,
They began to close the distance between them,
A quick handshake at first,
Glasses clinged the next,
Escape into the wild seemed a better choice,
And they took off to the places,
Where silence met the sound,
The stars danced in passion,
The Moon smiled at the Earth,
They talked and listened,
And laughed and cried,
A soul recognises another by the sensation,
Celestial and Ethereal,
The stars sometimes nod in approval,
The Moon hears their laughs and cries,
And a love story is born,
It isn’t that complex,
Not even complicated as such,
What is meant to be will find a way,
We hopeless romantics tell to ourselves…….

A Queen demands a King…

A King devoid of a Queen may last upto so long,
The Queen builds the foundation of their empire,
Together they forge their Castle in colors of the sky,
The King needs a Queen for days uncanny,
The Queen when she has to be bathed in glory,
Only a King can steer a Queen,
Or sometimes not,
Only a Queen can deliver,
The promises made under the moonlit sky,
But they complete each other,
With nutrition and little rays of hope,
They build each other,
The empire is nothing,
Without a King or a Queen…..

The Man…..

The winds were calm that day,
The sun still in its cradle,
Jogging along the usual path,
Music blasting in his ears,
He stopped for tea,
Who are you running from,
A voice had asked from behind him,
Someone too wise for his years,
Smiled at him,
The freckles on his face had their own stories,
A cigarette in one hand,
A cup of tea in other,
Sorry, I didn’t get you,
He answered,
The man smiled again,
Finished his tea,
Rubbed the cigarette on the floor,
One day you’ll have to stop running,
Run away,
Run to it,
Or let it stay,
The man got up,
Winked at him,
And jogged away……

The Cigarette….

He walked down the path,
Engrossed in his phone,
The one that rarely chimed,
Stopped at the corner,
To click a photo,
Sat there,
The little steps coming out of a closed shop,
Took out a cigarette to smoke away,
His insecurities, the pain, the sufferings,
Some responsibilities too,
Some memories too,
Puff by puff the cigarette lost its form,
The man slowly losing consciousness,
Took out his phone again,
Dialled a number,
Stopped even before it rang,
The man puffed the last of the cigarette,
Rubbed it against the hard floor,
Looked at the dustbin in front of him,
And with the aim of a professional basketballer,
Threw it inside,
And watched it slowly mix with the garbage already there,
He dialled the number back again,
This time letting it ring,
Who’s this?
Asked an unfamiliar voice,
Sorry, wrong number,
He had said…..

Sun She Is….

As he burned in her desire,
His skin donned her smell,
His breath the rhythm of her heart,
They say love falls from the sky,
And hits the earthlings,
Usually when they are unaware,
Engrossed in the duties of time,
Does it really happen?
Had someone asked,
Maybe, Maybe not,
He had said,
My world becomes her,
The sun to my farms,
The rains to my meadows,
The winds to my wings,
The dreams to my reality,
Maybe it happens,
Who am I to say,
Maybe I am a moon to the Sun she is……
